On Sunday September 17, 2023 The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC made a “Great Escape” back to 2007 where Emo was alive and thriving. Boys Like Girls performed in front of hundreds of emo/pop punk fans last Sunday, where they got to live out their emo dreams again after 12 long years of waiting for their return. Boys Like Girls kicked off their North America tour “Speaking Our Language” to promote the release of “Blood and Sugar”, their first song in 12 years.
In support of their long awaited return they have many different artist/bands joining them on their tour. In Charlotte, their openers were LOLO, Four Years Strong, and State Champs. Each band got the crowd more and more excited, many even crowd surfed in anticipation.
Boys Like Girls started off their set STRONG with their song “Love Drunk” making their fans SCREAM for more. They played 30 songs in 90 minutes consistently, which is IMPRESSIVE. They also sang many of their popular songs such as “Heartbreak” and “Head Over Heels” as well as their new song they were promoting “Blood and Sugar.”
At the end of the show, they told everyone to take out their phones because they performed “The Great Escape,” one of their most listened to and streamed on Limewire (if you are old enough to remember that, and they did mention that). This was an EPIC way to end their show.
This is just the beginning for Boys Like Girls. They announced at the concert that they plan on writing more songs, as well as doing another tour, proving that Emo is not dead. It was one of my most memorable concerts to date. I learned that I am still an emo girl at heart, even after all these YEARS!
