Needtobreathe brings the Caves tour to Greenville, SC

Seneca, SC rock band Needtobreathe brought the second stop of their headlining tour to Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, SC last Saturday, evening bringing folk band Judah and The Lion along with them to open up the show.

Needtobreathe was founded by two brothers, Bo and Bear Rinehart, in Seneca SC, a small town located near Clemson University. The band falls into many genres such as alternative rock, christian rock, and post-rock. I had the pleasure of photographing Needtobreathe last fall when they opened for One Republic, proving that they can fit into various lineups and tour packages.

The show started a few minutes after 7:30 with Alternative folk band Judah and The Lion bringing 11 high energy songs, one being a cover of the popular “My Own Worst Enemy” and one being the popular “Take It All Back”. Their set was high energy, fun, and consisted of a lot of dancing from lead singer, Judah Akers. Switching instruments and musical styles during the entire set, it was never boring and left fans excited for what Judah and his band was going to do next. During the last song, Judah went into the crowd to sing and interact with fans. Judah and the Lion’s set definitely set the own for the rest of the evening.

Needtobreathe took the stage around 9:00, where colorful backdrops and backup singers appeared with the band. The excitement from the band members and the crowd alike were unmatched. When I photographed Needtobreathe last year, bassist Seth Bolt was in a boot, causing him to sit down for the duration of their set; however, this go around he was healthy and the crowd was able to see him make use of the entire stage.

Needtobreathe’s set was 27 songs, most of which come from their newest release “Caves”. The band also played two covers, one from The Who and one from Oasis. During the encore, the band played a song with Judah and The Lion.

Needtobreathe is a prime example that religious bands are not limited to one genre, as needtobreathe has played with many bands across many genres over the years.
