On a rainy tuesday night, Boys like Girls and Grayscale played a show to a crowded theatre in the heart of downtown Athens Georgia. The show was packed with people of all ages excited to see the show. The energy was present from song number one of grayscale and didn’t end until Boys Like Girls played their last song.
Grayscale opened the show at 7:00 pm, with their set ending thirteen songs later. Most of their songs came from their 2019 record “Nella Vita”. Throughout the set, vocalist Collin Walsh joked around and interacted with the crowd. I always find it fun and personable when artists make it a point to interact with fans, regardless of how big or small a show may be. At the end of the set, Grayscale covered a Van Halen song, which was definitely a surprise!
After grayscale, anticipation was budding as Boys Like Girls set up. Truthfully, Boys Like Girls is a band I never thought I would get to see and I feel confident other fans felt the same way. They are a core childhood band of mine due to their songs “The Great Escape”, “Love Drunk”, and “Two is Better than One”. At about 9:30 pm, the lights dimmed and the song began. The band started the show with “Love Drunk” which made everyone sing, dance, and even cry. It is always exciting hearing songs that scream “nostalgia”.
Boys Like Girls played twenty six songs, so everyone in the crowd got a taste of different songs, both new and old. Twenty six songs is a long set list; however, the energy maintained down to the last song. Boys Like Girls played songs mostly from self titled and “Love Drunk”. They also covered songs by TWICE and Bruce Springsteen.
Needless to say, Boys Like Girls/Grayscale was a memorable show, not just for me but everyone involved. I always enjoy getting to hear songs I grew up listening to so seeing others experiencing the same feeling was refreshing and exciting. Until next time, BLG!
