On Friday night, rock bands Bastardane and OTTTO kicked off their co-headline summer tour in NYC. Despite pouring rain, fans lined up early to get in for this impressive bill.

HUSBANDRY

Starting the show was local NYC band Husbandry. Playing mostly new material, the group delivered an energetic and intense 30 minute set. Their noise punk sound was graciously welcomed by the crowd. “We live literally right around the corner, so we’re stoked to be playing tonight on this amazing show!” said the band’s singer.

BASTARDANE

Up next was Bastardane, a power trio whose sound packed quite the punch. The band started with “Sweet and Cheap”, followed right up by “Gaslight”, and then “Revolt”. Their set featured several songs off their latest album. “This next song’s off our new album called Catatonic Symphony. The song has a creative title…it’s called ‘Catatonic Symphony’” joked the band. The sounds of heavy, distorted riffs being pushed by pounding drums reverberated through venue. The band members’ energy matched the tone of their songs, as they shook their instruments, flipped their hair around, and grooved out with the crowd, while still maintaining their precise and impactful playing.

OTTTO

Closing out the show was the dynamic and lively OTTTO. Adding to an already strong night, the group launched into their set with the crowd favorite “Ride Low”, and kept things moving from there. “We’re from California, so we’d like to dedicate this next one to all the surfers out there!” said the group before their second song “Let Them Return”. As a special treat for the audience, the band even threw in two new songs that had never been performed live before. Bass player Tye Trujillo also found time to play an epic several minute long bass solo mid set, showing off the range of his playing skills. All members of the band displayed talented musicianship, all while often leaping into the air with such force I was questioning if they were jumping up, or if they were pushing the ground down.

Bastardane and OTTTO’s extensive co-headline tour continues through early September. You can view all upcoming shows here.
