Charlotte’s The Fillmore was alive and kicking on October 30th, as fans packed in for a high-energy lineup headlined by some of the heaviest hitters in the scene. With crowd surfers and mosh pits in full force, the bill brought out the best in both the bands and the audience.
Vomit Forth
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it for Vomit Forth’s set, due to a last-minute personal issue. I’ll keep an eye out and catch this group next time they’re in the area.
AngelMaker
AngelMaker came out strong with a tight, intense set that fired up the crowd right away. Their heavy sound and focused performance created the perfect setup for the rest of the night, providing a solid foundation for the next bands to build on.

Spite
If I had to pick a favorite set of the night, as a photographer, it would have to be Spite. They brought an insane level of energy that was infectious, with relentless stage presence and movement. The entire band seemed to be firing on all cylinders, and the crowd fed off that vibe, pushing the intensity of the pit up several notches. It was the kind of show where you couldn’t help but be caught up in the moment.

Dying Fetus
Dying Fetus had a bit of a slower start, but once the crowd got into it, they were all in. While the stage presence was less dynamic than Spite, their sheer musical precision and technical skill were undeniable. Watching the crowd surfers flying through the air from my spot off to the side, I could see that everyone was having a blast. They brought a different, more grounded intensity that balanced out the lineup well.

The Black Dahlia Murder
Headlining the night was The Black Dahlia Murder, on their first tour supporting Servitude, their first release since the tragic passing of Trevor Strnad in 2022. This was my first time seeing them, and they did not disappoint. The setlist was a perfect blend of their classic tracks and new material, and the show displayed why they’ve remained one of the most enduring acts in the scene. Their performance was both a tribute to the past and a powerful statement on moving forward, leaving the crowd with an experience to remember.

Overall, the night delivered everything fans could have asked for: a killer lineup, relentless energy, and the pure, raw intensity that makes metal shows unforgettable. With a strong mix of styles and bands, each set brought something different to the table.
