New York City’s New Colossus Fest brings together some of the best up-and-coming bands each year for several days of amazing, non-stop music. Red Ribbon’s recent performance at The Bowery Electric proved this year’s fest was no exception.

Red Ribbon is the brainchild of musician Emma Danner, who released her third album under the moniker last November, the self-titled Red Ribbon. The album has a raw emotion to it, exploring themes of a recent heartbreak and other personal details of Danner’s life. That same captivating energy was brought to life at Friday night’s show.

The moody stage lights set the tone for this intimate show, as the band picked up their instruments, and Danner began peppering the audience with catchy guitar riffs. The rest of the band soon kicked in with their parts, as the audience moved even closer to the stage. The six song set pulled multiple cuts off the aforementioned new album, including “Gang Star” and “YSFP”. Floating over the dreamy chords and tight drums were alluring vocal melodies, which almost all members of the band contributed to at one point or another. Further adding to the group’s impressive performance was the range of instruments used during certain tracks, including flute, tambourine, and Ebow. “We’re from LA and we’re super excited to be here tonight for the fest. Thanks for coming out!” said Danner to the crowd in appreciation.
