CHARLOTTE, NC — If you’ve been keeping an eye on Eggy, you already know they’re riding a serious wave. The Connecticut-based quartet pulled into Charlotte on their “Here & Now” tour and brought the Visulite Theatre to life with two sets of wildly creative, genre-bending magic.

Eggy opened with “Boom or Bust,” letting it breathe and evolve right out of the gate. The song’s shifting landscapes set the tone for a night of immersive improvisation, with moments of stillness giving way to explosive crescendos. The band’s natural chemistry was on full display — every move felt intentional but never forced. They moved effortlessly between tight rhythmic interplay and airy, explorative jams, blurring the line between structure and spontaneity.

The first set was a smooth ride through fan favorites and unexpected treats, including a fiery cover of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets.” From funk to fusion, rock to soul, Eggy wove it all together with a clarity that comes only from time on the road and full trust in each other.

The second set was pure flow — no stops, no breaks, just over an hour of seamless transitions and deep musical conversations. “Shatter” kicked it off, quickly giving way to “Shadow” and then the multi-layered pulse of “Atomic Age.” Nestled within the journey was a jazzy detour into “Partido Alto” (a nod to Brazilian legend Airto Moreira), followed by the hypnotic return of “Shallow Rivers,” which swirled in and out of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard’s “Interior People.”

The band toyed with form, looping back to earlier themes and reshaping them along the way. By the time they landed back into “Shatter,” the room had been stretched and lifted in every direction. Rather than step offstage, Eggy leaned into the encore with a smile — literally. A buoyant take on “Smile” closed the night with lightness and grace, sending the crowd floating out into the warm spring night.

Eggy doesn’t just play songs — they build worlds. And on this night, Charlotte got a front-row seat to the magic.
