On Friday night, Drive-By Truckers and Deer Tick brought their Charm & Decadence Tour to The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City. The two legendary bands were joined by Thelma and the Sleaze who opened the night and set the tone for the three plus hours of rock ‘n roll to come.

After a short break in the action, Providence-based alt-rock/folk Deer Tick took the stage and kicked it into high gear. Lead vocalist, John Joseph McCauley, was arched back in his signature pose before the opening song was even finished. What followed was an hour plus of newer songs and fan favorites.

They kicked things off with ‘If She Could Only See Me Now’ and then worked their way through ‘These Old Shoes’, ‘Running From Love’, and set closer ‘The Real Thing’.

By the time Deer Tick was finished the crowd was amped and the sky cleared for what turned out to be a beautiful sunset. As Drive-By Truckers took the stage, the sky was a mix of colors, the NYC skyline started to light up, and the crowd erupted as they kicked off their set with ‘Ramon Casiano’. From there they worked their way through fan favorites ‘Gravity’s Gone’, ‘Let There Be Rock’, ‘Drag the Lake Charlie’, ‘Women Without Whiskey’, and set closer ‘A World of Hurt’ with McCauley.
