Thousand Below: The Buried In Jade Tour

San Diego post-hardcore band, Thousand Below performed to a packed Motorco Music Hall in Durham, North Carolina this past Wednesday night as part of their Buried In Jade Tour. Motorco, a venue that has become a staple of the music scene in central NC and with a capacity of 400 created an intimate environment for the nearly sold-out crowd. Thousand Below, recently released their fourth studio album of the same name in August and have been hitting the road ever since along with fellow artists Aviana, True North and Dreamwake.

When the time came for Thousand Below to take the stage, the crowd was well warmed up after a heavy-hitting performance by Swedish metalcore band, Aviana. Before the headliners even took the stage, the pit was open and the crowd began pushing to the front of the stage. As the stage lights dimmed and the hum of guitar amps filled the room, one by one the members of Thousand Below walked onto stage to an eruption of cheers. Once vocalist, James Deberg took center stage looking out over the concert-goers faces, the band kicked into the lead track from their new album, “Kerosene.” The energy in the audience was immediately at a high with headbanging, jumping and singing along and never came back down for a moment during the performance.

Thousand Below delivered a spectacular and flawless performance with vocals and instrumentals that could have been straight from their records. But the thing that stood out the most to this writer, is the passion behind every note that Deberg belted out. As a fan of Thousand Below myself, it was such a pleasure to see that the lyrics that mean so much to myself and others were delivered with even more passion and soulfulness than the recordings. All of this to say, Thousand Below is a band you MUST see live, especially while they are still small enough to be seen in small intimate venues. Because before too long, I believe we will be seeing them on a much larger tour circuit.

There’s currently about two weeks left of the Buried In Jade Tour and then the band will be heading to Europe at the end of 2025. Make sure to catch them near your city soon!
