Owl City at The Ritz Raleigh

“You would not believe your Eyes,” at who came to The Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday March 21, 2024. Owl City with Special Guest Augustana brought their “Too the moon and back,” tour to Raleigh, just one of ten stops on their North American tour.

You may be familiar with Augustana, as they sing the popular song “Boston.” Well, that Thursday night just one of the original Augustana members performed this song, and many more, as an opener for Owl City. Augustana is an American Rock band, that formed in 2002. They are currently fronted by Daniel Layus, who is the only remaining band member. Augustana really resonated with fans, as he sang about love, heartache, and getting back on your feet after failing. At one point I event, teared up some.

Owl City First became a popular band in the alt-pop scene in 2007 with “Hello Seattle,’ which they performed Thursday night at the Ritz in Raleigh, North Carolina. Singing along with Nostalgia in their hearts, as not only did they sing “Hello Seattle,” but OF COURSE they sang their extremely popular song “Fireflies,” which is one of the songs I, and most came to hear, and of course we sang along! Fans knew when they were about to perform “Fireflies,” as they stopped everything and told everyone to take out their flashlights on their phones.

This was an especially unique and memorable experience, because it fit the themes and tranquility of the song, giving the song an almost calming feel to it. I first heard this song in middle school, so it was very nostalgic to me. Adam himself played more than one instrument during the concert, which was very impressive to the audience, who cheered loudly with encouragement each time he switched to a different instatement. He switched them in a fast-paced manor, switching from drums, many different guitars, a keyboard, and more all while singing.

Owl city fans built a global following as the band wears their heart-on-their sleeves with their unique sound, and their song writing. They earned a diamond record with their song “Fireflies.” The Minnesota-bred artist otherwise known as Adam Young splashed the music world, with his smash hit Ft Carly Rae Jepsen, “Good Time.” Adam that bands main singer, concludes that some of his music specifically his song “Coco Moon,” “Was this very pure, euphoric moment when I realized that I could immediately be transported into another world that I’d made myself. I had no agenda beyond creating that feeling—it’s why I got started making music, and it’s what I want to keep fighting to attain.” Due to their pure, euphoric, and calming music, this was a concert, that anyone could love, including that many children and babies that so happened to tag along with their parents.
