Reyna Tropical at Public Records

On Saturday night, Reyna Tropical played an intimate sold out show at Public Records in NYC. Dim lighting and tables adorned with candles and flowers set the mood as fans entered the venue. The concert was a celebration of the band’s new album, Malegría, which dropped late last month. Even before the show started, the joyful crowd in the packed room was embracing the positive vibes by dancing and singing together.

Reyna Tropical soon took the stage as loud cheers from the audience filled the room. The band ripped through the first several songs of their set with the crowd singing along to every word. At points, singer/guitarist Fabi Reyna would even drop her guitar and energetically dance around the stage while interacting with the crowd. “New York, what is the amazing energy? I feel so giddy! Promise me we’ll have a second date sometime?” said Reyna after the first few songs. Throughout the show, the crowd was also treated to backstories about the writing process for Malegría, and the inspiration behind certain songs. The themes behind the band’s music they mentioned included heritage, healing, carving your own path for the future, and coming together to support the LGBTQIA+ community. “This whole album feels like we’re all cozy in my room together having conversations with the land.” said Reyna about the album, before jumping right back into her melodic vocals and shredding guitar.

Reyna Tropical will embark on a tour with Portugal. The Man starting in May, before returning to NYC in August for a headline show at The Sultan Room. You can check out all of the band’s upcoming shows here.
