Photos and Review by Melanie Mae Bryan
Two of the best emo bands of recent years, Knuckle Puck and Hot Mulligan, brought their tour to Cat’s Cradle in Carrboro, NC the other night. As if that lineup wasn’t already stacked, they were also accompanied by Meet Me @ The Altar and Anxious. I have had the pleasure of shooting MM@TA before so I knew to expect a whirlwind of energy, but I was not familiar with Anxious. When their set was about to begin, the singer started off in a silent crouch. I was unprepared for it when it seemed as if someone pressed the “on” button and activated him. For the rest of their set, he was like a pinball bouncing around the stage. Next up was the always wonderful Meet Me @ The Altar, a diverse group of five fierce and talented females. They even treated us to a mash-up of classic songs from Jimmy Eat World, Lit, Limp Bizkit, and more. MM@TA seemed like the “fan favorite” to me at first, but I realized how wrong I was when Hot Mulligan came on. The excitement began to build as there was applause and loud cheering for each member that appeared. Their energy was truly next-level and I wish I had gotten to capture more of their set, but I was removed from the photo pit when the crowd surfing began. I was unfortunately unable to capture anything of Knuckle Puck, either, but still had a great evening with the first 3 bands. I highly encourage you to check out each and every one of them!
