Chaos and Carnage at The Fillmore

The Chaos and Carnage Tour rolled through The Fillmore Charlotte on May 12 with a noticeably altered lineup after Thy Art Is Murder dropped off the tour due to a medical emergency. What remained was still a stacked night of deathcore and death metal, even if the turnout never quite matched the caliber of the bill. Despite expectations that the room would fill in later in the evening, the crowd stayed relatively sparse throughout the night, creating a much more intimate atmosphere than a tour of this scale would normally bring.

Unfortunately, I missed Bodybox due to traffic, catching the show starting with Gates To Hell. Alongside Ingested and 200 Stab Wounds, the early portion of the night delivered exactly what you would expect from the package: heavy riffs, nonstop blast beats, and plenty of aggression. All three bands put on solid sets, though none particularly stood out from the pack, and a muddy mix throughout much of the evening made it difficult for the finer details to cut through clearly.

Things noticeably shifted once Carnifex hit the stage. The energy in the room finally clicked into place, with the pit opening up immediately and crowd surfers constantly making their way to the barricade. Their set felt tighter, louder, and far more commanding than what came before it, helping breathe some life into a crowd that had felt somewhat restrained earlier in the night.

Headliners Bodysnatcher closed the night with easily the most chaotic set of the evening. The smaller-than-expected crowd actually worked in the band’s favor, making the performance feel more personal and intense rather than empty. The pit stayed moving nonstop, and the sheer number of crowd surfers turned the barricade area into controlled chaos for most of the set. Bodysnatcher fed off that energy perfectly, delivering the kind of abrasive, high-impact performance that reminded everyone why they’ve become one of the more reliable live acts in modern deathcore.
