All the way from Sacramento, California, Dance Gavin Dance has made a massive impact on the modern rock scene with their mind blowing blend of post-hardcore, math rock, and progressive rock. Formed in 2005, the band has endured numerous lineup changes while continuing to evolve and push the boundaries of their sound. The current lineup features lead guitarist Will Swan, drummer Matthew Mingus, harsh vocalist Jon Mess, and lead vocalist Andrew Wells. Throughout the band’s history, noteworthy former members have included Jonny Craig, Kurt Travis, Tilian Pearson, and the late Tim Feerick. Swan and Mingus remain the only members to have appeared on every studio album, serving as the backbone of Dance Gavin Dance’s insane sound. On Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, the band brought their signature energy to the stage at the Filmore in Charlotte, North Carolina, delivering a performance that showcased why they remain one of the most influential acts in the post-hardcore music scene today.

The concert featured a stacked supporting lineup that included Horse the Band, Wolf & Bear, and NOVELISTS. Each supporting act gave a fantastic performance. Starting with NOVELISTS, a metalcore and progressive metal band formed in Paris in 2013. The combination of blues inspired melodies, distorted guitar tones, and both harsh and clean female vocals was an unexpected and refreshing surprise. Vocalist Camille Contréras was absolutely jaw-dropping, commanding the stage with confidence and emotion while showcasing incredible vocal range. The band’s energy was infectious, making them one of my favorite performances of the night. Wolf & Bear followed with a high energy set that balanced techincal and groovy riffs. Their chemistry on stage was evident, and the band’s blend of progressive post-hardcore elements kept the audience with precision while still feeling raw and energetic, creating several memorable moments that had the crowd moving and singing along. Opening the evening, HORSE the Band brought their signature chaotic and unpredictable style that helped set the tone for the night. Their unique fusion of metalcore and retro inspired synths created an atmosphere unlike any other band on the bill. The band’s wild stage presence and relentless energy quickly won over the crowd, proving why they have maintained such a dedicated following over the years.

Together, the supporting acts elevated the entire concert experience. Rather than feeling like warm-up performances, each band delivered a set worthy of headlining in its own right, making the night feel like a showcase of some of the most exciting and diverse talent in modern heavy music.
Dance Gavin Dance erupted onto the stage with “Animal Surgery,” which instantly created a massive surge of energy that swept through the entire venue from the first note. The opening track transformed the atmosphere in seconds. The crowd was phenomenon and exploded with excitement, singing, jumping, and feeding off the band’s sound. What made the night even more memorable was that the concert coincided with Andrew Wells 35th birthday, turning an already highly anticipated performance into a genuine celebration. Throughout the evening, fans made their support impossible to miss. The crowd was filled with homemade signs, custom shirts, and even stuffed animals being tossed around, dedicated to celebrate Andrew and showing appreciation for the band. The sense of community extended beyond the audience as well. In a touching and unexpecrted moment, members of the opening acts joined Dance Gavin Dance onstage, coming together with the crowd to sing and celebrate. Thousands of voices echoed throughout the venue, creating a powerful atmosphere that felt less like a concert and more like a shared celebration with friends.
The combination of the explosive opening, the birthday festivities, and the overwhelming show of support from everyone in attendance made the performance feel uniquely special. From the first moments of “Animal Surgery” to the collective singalongs that followed, the night was defined by unity, excitement, and appreciation for all bands that night. It was the kind of performance that reminded everyone in the room why live music is an insanely powerful and unforgettable feeling and experience that is unbeatable.
